The Family Business

Posted by Dan Bolin on OA10er @ 10:39

“The Christian faith is meant to be lived moment by moment. It isn’t some broad, general outline – it’s a long walk with a real Person. Details count: passing thoughts, small sacrifices, a few encouraging words, little acts of kindness, brief victories over nagging sins.”

A SLICE OF FRESH BREAD

I know several people who have taken over their family businesses. Rare today, but this was the norm in Bible times. Grandparents and parents who herded sheep raised the next generation to herd sheep. Bakers trained their children to bake. Fishermen taught their children to fish.

When Mary and Joseph found their 12-year-old son discussing theology with the scholars in the temple, He told them, “I must be about my Father's business.” (Luke 2:49 AV) When Jesus was challenged by the religious hypocrites he said, “My Father is always at his work to this very day, and I, too, am working.” (John 5:17)

Jesus knew that the mission statement of the family business was “to seek and to save what was lost.” (Luke 19:10b) He also knew the core value was love. He told his disciples, “As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love.” (John 15:9)

Sometime children grow and expand the businesses they inherit; others run their birthright into the ground. As children of God, it is our responsibility to learn the “family business.” We are called to actively engage in fulfilling the mission and consistently live its core value.

PRAYER REQUESTS and PRAISE REPORTS

PRAYER REQUESTS

CCI-Latin America/Honduras is getting ready for a two-tier training week Oct. 1-8. First they will train the 24 trainers who have signed up (Oct. 1-3) and they in turn will train the facilitators (hoping for 50) of the team-building initiatives (Low ropes course) on Oct. 4-7. They are focusing on teaching the facilitators to help people process and learn from their experiences, both in life and in camp. Pray for teachable spirits and unity of criteria amongst the many trainers being certified.

Please pray that God will give Canadian camp leaders wisdom as they make important decisions in our country's current moral state.

Dan Bolin and Keith Hagon are travelling to Nepal September 19-26 to meet with some of those involved in camping there. They would value prayers for the trip and the meetings, especially in light of the impact of the monsoon floods there and in neighboring countries.

CCCA requests prayer for their board meeting taking place right now. Pray that God leads the board with wisdom and discernment in all the decisions, including the budget and strategic plan for the 17-18 fiscal year. Our team is also hard at work amidst the busy season of preparing for Clarity, our national conference to be held in Colorado Springs, CO Dec 4-7. Pray that every who God intends to be there will get registered and that our team will continue to have favor with many details coming together.

Pray for plans for the CCI EUROPEAN RENDEZVOUS October 15-18, 2018 in France. They need to finalize the venue, program, guest list and all the details. They have a provisional venue to be finally agreed. Pray for good communication & clarity between France, UK, USA and input from European associations. Pray also for plans to establish a network in SE France, meeting in December, to complement Alsace.

CCI-Ukraine's preparation for its National Conference, November 2-3, is well in progress. Many things and people have been confirmed, yet there are still many details that need to be worked on and brought together. Please pray for all the details to be worked out. Also pray that God would lead to the Conference everyone He wants to be there. So far 181 camp leaders have registered. There is room for a total of 350 participants.

PRAISE REPORTS

CC-New Zealand has just completed two amazing leadership events where over 100 young people attended. The hunger to grow in God is evident understanding their Value Identity and Purpose (VIP). They give thanks to God for this.

On September 17 CCI-Ukraine represented Christian Camping at the National Thanksgiving Day organized by Evangelical Churches of Ukraine in the main street of Ukraine's capital city. The entire day we were busy offering games to children, information to parents, as well as making new acquaintances with camp people, and visiting with the old CCI buddies. Thanks to everyone for praying. It was a great day.
